Thomas A. Mercer

Tom Mercer has over 5 years experience in the insurance industry and over twenty years of management experience in the public and private sector. Prior to joining ICAT, Mr. Mercer was responsible for all marketing efforts at Unitrin Direct, a direct-to-consumer auto insurance company. He cut his teeth in the insurance industry as a Product Manager for Progressive Insurance, where he had P&L responsibility for four western states.

Mr. Mercer’s other business experience includes strategic management consulting at McKinsey & Company in Southern California. He spent 11 years as an officer in the U.S. Navy in various roles including test pilot on new helicopter weapons programs and staff officer for the commander of an aircraft carrier task force in the Persian Gulf.

Mr. Mercer holds an MBA from the Anderson School at UCLA, an M.S. in Aerospace Engineering from the University of Maryland, and a Bachelors degree from the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, MD.

Mr. Mercer is responsible for underwriting quality, profit and loss, and premium growth for Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, and Alabama. He is also actively involved in new product development initiatives at ICAT.
